People ask me:
Isn't giving my dog a massage the same as petting my dog?
A massage may look like petting, but it is different — I refer to massage as “touching your dog with a specific intent.”
And by that I mean, when you move your hands over your dog, you are actually looking for some thing (and hoping not to find):
Hot areas (inflammation)
Cold areas (poor circulation)
Does your dog react negatively to the area on their body you are touching?
Why Massage?
Touch can bring your dog comfort, but massage does much more:
- improves circulation
- increase blood flow
- stimulates the removal of toxins trapped in tissues, and
- release a spasm
- help give you a stronger bond with your dog
- Essentially, massage enhances evey system and organ in their body
- It stimulates the release of endorphins
- Can help with hip dysplasia, arthritis, allergies, swollen joints and even dry, flaky skin can benefit from regular massage

Massage is ideal for dogs at every stage of their lives:
- Improve circulation, digestion, respiration
- Improve relaxation and sleep
- Increase range of motion and flexibility
- Increase the amount of nutrients to the muscles
- Reduction of pain
- Reduction in muscle knots and spasms
- Eliminates waste and toxins within the body
- General physical and psychological well-being, and
- Just to pamper yourself or your dog
Watching your dog move and the way they respond to your touch provides valuable information as to what area(s) of their body may need special attention. Your pet will always “tell” you what they like and don’t like, what hurts and what feels good. (How do they tell you? Ask Jean).
EARLY DETETION ALLOWS FOR EARLY INTERVENTION:
Regular massage allows for early detection of health problems.
Through your touch and observation:
- you will feel changes in your dog’s skin and hair
- you will notice your dog’s behavorial changes
- you will identify developing health issues
- to name a few

A MASSAGE FOR YOUR DOG CAN HELP:
Senior dogs: Massage can help with circulation and help move those aging joints.
Post-surgical: Decrease boredom as well as the stagnation of the lymphatic system fter surgery or when cage restriction is required.
All senior dogs and/or dogs with a current medical condition, must obtain written vet approval to take this class. Vet Approval Form-Massage (or if you want Jean to massage your dog) — no exceptions.
