How did Snoopy come into my life? Snoopy was abandoned at a dog park. A “Good Samaritan” saw a family of 4 (mom, dad and 2 kids) bring Snoopy into the dog park, put him down, said good-bye and left him. It was obvious to the Good Samaritan that Snoopy (named by his foster mom) could not walk (his medical history is unknown). The Good Samaritan took Snoopy home, called Torrance Animal Control (TAC) and TAC took Snoopy back to TAC.
A woman, Maureen, came into TAC, saw Snoopy scooting across the floor, and decided on the spot to foster Snoopy and took him home. After a visit to Maureen’s vet, Snoopy was diagnosed with Intervertebral Disc Disease (IDD). Snoopy’s future seemed dim; would he ever walk again? We did not know.
A client told me this story and I asked the client to have Maureen call me. After Maureen called, we discussed swimming Snoopy to see if that would help build leg muscles. I told Maureen to discuss with her vet on their opinion as to moving forward. I also told Maureen that I would need her vet’s written approval as I am not a vet, nor am I an acupuncturist, and I do not diagnose. (I have had vets recommend acupuncture in combination with swimming in past and have seen the combination help dogs.) However, I said there is no guarantee how a dog will respond, and I do not make promises I cannot keep.
After discussing options with her vet and receiving Maureen’s vet written approval, Snoopy started receiving acupuncture once a week from vet and Snoopy started swim sessions twice a week with me.
